Q: I want my pet to stay at Paw & Order but we've never stayed there before. What do I need to do?
A: For first time campers, we will need 3 things before we can make a reservation for your fur baby.
- Camper Registration form completed online
- Book a Stay at Camp form completed
- A copy of their up-to-date vaccination records from their vet. Most vets will e-mail a copy directly to us at your request.
Q: My pet is staying overnight... what do I bring?
A: All you need to bring is your pet(s), their food and any medication/supplements and we will take of everything else to make sure that they are comfortable including bowls, beds, bedding, toys and treats. If your pet is on a special diet, please feel free to bring their own treats. Of course, this is all assuming that we have already received their vaccination records in advance, otherwise you will have to bring a copy of those too.
Q: Can I bring my pet's bed and blankets?
A: We tend to discourage bringing their bed and blankets from home for a couple of reasons. First, if they are going to be sharing a room with some friends, we don't want you dog's buddies to ruin their personal items. Even if your dog doesn't chew, another fur kid might. Secondly, because we wash and clean everything in each room at least twice a day, his/her bed and blankets wouldn't smell like home for long so there's often no reason to pack it all up for them. Having said this, if it's important to you for them to have their own items then it's equally as important to us and we will certainly make that happen.
Q: How much food should I bring?
A: Please bring only what they will need during their stay with us. If your pet is staying less than 7 nights, please pre-package their food in meal-sized portions in Ziplock bags. For stays longer than a week, we can accommodate larger bags of food in our secure totes.
Q: We feed "Fluffy" a Raw diet... can you do this?
A: Absolutely! We have a full size fridge/freezer keeping cold food cold and a microwave for heating up meals as well.
Q: I want my dog to start daycamp at Paw & Order, what do I do?
A: The first thing to do is contact us to discuss our availability for entry into the program. From then, we will ask you to complete the Camper Registration form and send along their vaccination records for rabies and kennel cough. From there, we will set up an assessment date & time. In some cases, we can schedule their first day and conduct the assessment at that time. If all goes well with the assessment, your dog can fully participate in the program for the remainder of the day and onward. If there is anything about the assessment that leads us to believe that our daycamp environment isn't well suited for your pup, we will keep them with us for the day in a modified program with lots of activity with our staff and advise you of such at the end of the day. It's important that the dog doesn't simply tolerate the experience but they thrive in the daycamp environment. In other cases, we set up a separate assessment date/time outside of our regular daycamp hours.
Q: I need my dog's nails done but I don't come to Paw & Order for anything else... can I do that?
A: Absolutely! We can schedule a simple pawdicure (nail trim) at any time. Just give us a call or use the Contact page on this website.
Q: My dog needs training. Can you help?
A: We can help you with training! We offer group classes several times throughout the year as well as Behavioural Assessments and Private Training sessions. Contact us directly to determine availability of group classes. We keep our class sizes small and intimate so they can be customized by group and as a result we sell out quickly. If your schedule, lifestyle or location currently prevent you from attending a group class, we also have an online version of our Manners 101 class available complete with weekly follow up calls/emails from our trainer.
Q: What's the difference between a Behavioural Assessment and a Private Training session?
A: With a problematic behaviour, we always start with an initial behavioural assessment to determine the nature of the issue and to determine why it's happening. During this assessment, we establish what's happening and why so we can come up with an appropriate plan for the parents on how they can handle the behaviour. Rarely do these sessions require subsequent private training sessions since we try to get it all done up front. Private Training sessions are when subsequent sessions are required after an initial Behavioural Assessment OR in cases when someone would like to do the Manners 101 class or a simple single topic (jumping, recall, etc.) privately and we don't have to determine why the behaviour is happening in the first place.
Q: If my dog is not in the Stay & Play Package, how do they spend their day?
A: For dogs who are reserved in the Sleepover Package (no daycamp), they spend some time outside playing first thing in the morning while we clean their dorm room and prepare their breakfast. Then they come inside for breakfast and remain in their dorm room throughout the day with 2 scheduled pee/stretch breaks/walks approximately 1/2 hour each. At the end of the day, they go outside again while we tidy their dorm room and prepare their supper (approximately an hour) after which they come inside for supper and after they settle, we put them to bed for a good night's sleep. If your pet has selected the Ultimate Vacation Package, they are free to hang out in the house (older dogs or those who would not enjoy the daycamp environment) or to participate in the daycamp program (when appropriate for the dog) since the cost of daycamp is included in the price. Basically, the Ultimate Vacation Package allows them to do whatever they want, whenever they want.
Q: What time do the dogs go to bed at night?
A: We usually have the dogs all set for bed between 630pm-7pm and have them back up and outside at around 630am the following morning. While this might sound like a long time, keep in mind that we are working all day long to make sure that they are sufficiently tired and happy so that all they want to do after supper is have a nice long sleep after being tucked in for the night. There was a time when we used to let them back outside between 9pm - 10pm but found that the dogs found this routine to be very disrupting.
Q: Is there a person on-site 24 hours/day 7 days/week?
A: No. Although we live on-site, there are sometimes when we leave the grounds to live like regular people and might go to a movie, to get supplies, visit friends or out for dinner. Having said this, there IS someone on-site throughout each day and overnight every night. When the owner is away, a team member stays in our home overnight. Our facility is better protected against emergencies than most family homes with a security system, a fire detection system that is hard-wired directly into our home and to the local fire department as well as emergency lighting and many fire extinguishers throughout the building.
Q: What’s the difference between Traditional Daycamp and Daycamp Elite?
A: Traditional daycamp will be continued only for existing clients who don’t wish to take advantage of the new Membership and Daycamp Elite programs. All new furry clients wishing to join our daycamp program in 2018 will only be offered the Daycamp Elite program due to the health and wellness benefits that come with our new program. Traditional daycamp will continue with off-leash group play with dogs of similar size and playstyle and annual school pictures. Daycamp Elite will include off-leash play, games, activities and training/learning activities for a more balanced approach to daycamp. The cost of traditional daycamp will be $27+HST and the cost for Daycamp Elite will be $39+HST. The difference in price will offset the costs associated with the additional equipment, supplies and training necessary to complete the activities.
Q: What if I already have a 10-pack of traditional daycamp but I want to become a Member and switch my pup to Daycamp Elite?
A: That’s no problem at all! We will simply calculate the cash value of all remaining 10-pack days and apply it to your new Paw & Order Sirius membership.
Q: If there are more rest periods in the Daycamp Elite program, will my dog still be tired at the end of the day?
A: Yes! But not in exactly the same way…. Based on the research done on the difference between providing physical stimulation only versus a balance of both physical and mental stimulation, the dogs are tired at the end of the day yet not to the point of complete exhaustion. With the addition of mental stimulation, the pups are better mannered in the home and still able to interact with their families in a more calm and thoughtful manner. In addition, they also receive daily training sessions targeted to their individual needs and behaviours. For example, young puppies in the program will have different learning activities than the adult dogs. Dogs who exhibit specific behavioural needs such as “door crashing” or jumping up on people will receive personal training time focused on these areas in addition to their games and activities.
